We’re lucky to live and work in San Diego. After all, we have wonderful weather most of the year and many flowers can flourish here. San Diego flower season begins just before spring to mid-summer. Here are a few suggestions to brighten your landscape.

Bougainvillea: This climbing shrub blooms year-round. Once established, you can look forward to abundant blooms in orange, pink, hot pink, light pink, purple, or white.

Mexican bush sage: These bushes can be an excellent addition to your landscape. It’s a perennial with soft gray-green leaves and purple clusters. It blooms in spring-fall and, once mature, can reach up to 4’ tall.

Snapdragon: You can brighten up your landscape with blossoms that are sure to bring a smile to your face. These flowers bloom in spring-fall, adding colors such as pink, red, white, orange, purple, yellow, bronze, and burgundy to your outdoor space.

Alyssum: if you’re looking for a colorful groundcover or some filler plants, Alyssum is an excellent option. These delicate flowers can bloom tiny purple or white flowers year-round.

Cosmos: These daisy-like flowers are easy to care for and have an aroma that is sure to please your senses. They can bloom in shades of white and pink in the summer.

Pansy: These are excellent flowers to complement your garden. They have heart-shaped leaves and can bloom in various hues, such as blue, purple, red, yellow, and white.

Salvia: These aromatic flowers can bloom purple, white, or pink flowers in the summer, sometimes until frost. Once established, they require minimal care and can thrive in your landscape with minimal watering.

California Fuchsia: When in bloom, you can enjoy scarlet flowers in summer and fall. These California natives can grow as small bushes. If you want to attract hummingbirds, grow California fuchsia and enjoy the show.
