Spring begins March 20, and that’s just a little more than a month away. That means there are essential tasks to complete to ensure your landscape is prepared or spring. Spring is a prime season for gardens and yards in San Diego County. While early 2025 rain totals were below average, late 2025 showed some promise with sparse storms hitting our region.
Post-winter rains can help create a lush, vibrant, and long-lasting blooming season. The milder temperatures in spring and longer daylight hours also create an ideal environment for new growth and plant establishment.
So, with all that said, let’s take a look at the tasks required to prepare your HOA’s landscape for San Diego County’s upcoming spring season!
Key Preparation Steps for Spring
Clean Up Winter Debris and Maintenance: Remove leaves, twigs, and other winter debris. Prune back branches on trees and shrubs that have been damaged by winter storms — doing this will encourage new growth.
Soil Preparation: Give your soil a boost by amending it with compost, organic material, worm castings. Soil preparation is especially valuable in your vegetable beds.
Mulching: Mulching is a great way to suppress weeds, so, apply a fresh layer to garden beds. Applying mulch can also help conserve moisture, which comes in handy once the temperatures start to rise.
